There is a winning combination in one of the alpine stone troughs. Here two surface hugging plants from separate continents have combined, growing through each other, their flower colour contrasting and complimenting. Both appreciating the free draining substrate and exposed situation. Helichrysum retortoides, a South African native is just expelling its seed and the blue bell shaped flowers of Campanula cochlearifolia, (S. Europe) heighten the appearance of the silvery capitula of the Helichrysum.
